It may be worth considering having a bespoke web application developed if:
Do any of the above apply to you?
There are numerous benefits to having a bespoke web application developed. This ranges from the smallest project such as having a plugin or module developed to a full blown website with an administration dashboard area.
A web application developed to perform specific processes and deliver certain functionality will align with your business goals and deliver a unique customer experience.
Custom software developed to integrate with your businesses existing and future processes will allow you to free up time and focus on one or more important things requiring your attention.
As the web application has been custom developed it will be easier to add security precautions at specific inputs and outputs.
Adding an SSL certificate, firewall and antivirus software should also be considered.
After the initial application has been designed, tested and put live it should then require a minimal level of maintenance to maintain performance. The only things that are most likely to need updating are the scripting language and any APIs that have been integrated.
The application will be able to scale with any new features or integrations that may be needed. Also the applications hosting or database may need to be upgraded due to rapid growth.
There are a myriad of business scenarios that your company may not have foreseen. By having developers on side who know your application inside out makes it possible to respond to unforeseen events.
The benefits listed above, will more than likely save you time, money and other tangible and intangible resources.
All projects begin by asking prospects what their requirements are and to understand what the end goal objectives are. Gathering customer requirements is usually done in several different ways.
Prospects typically like to be able to show an existing application and then describe how they would like something similar with certain features unique to their business or organisation. If they can’t demonstrate using an existing application, they are then asked to write down a detailed description of what they’d like built with a list of specific features that they require.
After your project requirements have been established, the information is then combined into a document describing all the elements of the project. This includes all of the pages required, custom functionality and how it will be implemented.
Finally a best guess project timeline and project milestones are also provided.
Once everybody is satisfied that the initial requirements have been listed and described in the specification document, we will then provide a quote for the work to be carried out.
It is then up to the prospect to either accept the quote and move the project into the development phase or otherwise leave it and not proceed at all.
After the client has accepted the quote and has given the project go-ahead is when the real work begins!
We will then start the development process and will give regular progress updates. When we reach certain project milestones we will let you view the progress and demo the product at various stages. The whole development process may be as short as a couple of weeks, a few months, up to six months or even a year and beyond.
Testing of the product is done periodically throughout the development process. However once all of the project phases have been completed the product must be tested as a whole to detect any bugs or other usability issues.
Once all outstanding issues have been identified and resolved, only then can releasing the product to the general public be considered.
After a cycle of testing has been completed and no more bugs or issues can be identified, the product can finally be prepared for launch.
Once the product has been launched its performance in the real world is closely monitored. If any unexpected issues come up they are quickly resolved to ensure a smooth on going performance.
Here are a few examples of recent web application projects that we have developed for customers. All of the projects listed, embodied some or all of the benefits listed in the previous section.
A sophisticated website was developed for Derbyshire recruitment firm Derventio UK.
The site allows potential candidates to fully register their details, to then be verified and put forward for jobs in the public and private sectors.
An invoicing app was developed for Widnes metal collection firm King Refining.
The application can create two different types of invoices, specific to their business needs, can monthly turnover targets and add subusers.
A facility allowing customers to leave personal reviews was built on to jewellery website Joolzery.
Reviews are managed in administration area and voucher coupons are able to be sent out to customers who left a review as a 'thank you'.
